Curtain Rails and Poles

Tracks and poles settle into two classes, functional or decorative. Although neat, white metal tracks are functional, poles, however, are not as functional as rails. Curtain poles are, without a doubt more pleasing on the eye, they add a stylish dimension to your window dressings.

Flexible and Functional Curtain Tracks

Metal-corded tracks are specially designed for most kinds of curtain fabrics. Metal tracks can be arranged to meet most widths or shapes of windows and positioned on walls or ceilings. The curtain track is either un-corded or corded with one or two-way draw function.

Tracks and Poles, Frequently Asked Questions.

Do I require a curtain track or a pole?

This can depend on the style of heading for the curtain you are hanging. Pencil pleat curtains can be hung from either a track or a pole. Tab top and Eyelet curtains should be hung from a curtain pole. With Pinch and Goblet pleat curtains, they can be hung from both tracks or poles, as the curtains will hang below to enable the curtains to concertina back correctly. Remember that the curtain track or pole would be in full view. For this reason, Pinch and goblet pleat curtain typically look more active when hung from an ornamental pole.

What kind of pole is required for eyelet curtains?

Eyelet Curtains are a striking variation of curtain, combining stylish looks coupled with practical benefits.

If you are purchasing eyelet curtains, then a metal pole would be best suited to the wear produced by the eyelets rather than a wooden pole. It is an excellent idea to choose a pole which is closest in colour to the curtains eyelets.

What about hanging net curtains?

Net curtains are typically hung from a net curtain wire or net curtain rod.

As standard, they come with a slot top heading. However, suppose you decide to purchase a pencil pleat heading for your nets. In that case, you will also be able to make use of the tape loops on the reverse of the heading tape to include hooks. Then you can hang them from either a track or pole.

How far each side of the window should I fit my track or pole?

We suggest elongating the track or pole 15 to 20 centimetres both sides of the window.

This will enable the curtains to be pushed back, away from the window without obstructing too much light or covering the opening. If you are buying heavy or thick, interlined curtains, we would advise going much farther each side. If your window is extremely wide, and there is a lot of curtaining to drawback, we would repeatedly recommend extending the track farther each side.

I originally found Drapes By Design online and have now used them twice for their fantastic all round service. On this occasion they supplied and fitted a pole and some dining room curtains for me. The man that has come out on both occasions, Paul, is really friendly, personable and easy to approach and he is also always easily contactable. The service is very efficient, the pricing is good and the quality is excellent, I would have no trouble in recommending them to others.

I would rate Drapes by Design 5 out of 5! They fitted a new curtain rail on a half bay for me, and I was pleased with their work. They remained polite and professional throughout, and I would happily use them again.

Laura Whittle in UK - 17 Aug 18

Paul and his team have fitted curtain poles, tracks and a roller blind throughout our house and have also made curtains for the majority of rooms (made to measure). We had just moved in and literally had bare windows upstairs and downstairs. Paul has been absolutely wonderful with us, explaining what the different options are and talking us through our choices. The fabrics our curtains have been made from are stunning and we are really delighted with them. The service has also been very efficient with prompt estimates, quick responses to emails etc A very professional but friendly company, faultless, would highly recommend Drapes by Design.

Ms Oakes in Barnehurst - 26 Nov 17

I used Drapes by Design because I was so impressed with how they fitted my daughters bay window rail, I am even more impressed with their work in fitting my square bay corded curtain rails. Their prices are reasonable too. The people are lovely and friendly. I have arthritis in my hands and couldn’t pull the curtains round the bay, now I can open and close the curtains myself with the cord, it’s brilliant. Thank you
